What we do
We test the door by hand first. An opener can't lift a door with a bad spring, and replacing a good opener to fix a spring problem is a classic upsell.
For new openers we install belt-drive or wall-mount models with battery backup, which matters in hurricane season when the power goes and the car is inside.

Three free checks before you call
1. Is the opener plugged in and the outlet live? Test it with a phone charger. 2. Is the 'lock' button on the wall panel on? It blocks the remotes. 3. Was the red emergency cord pulled? The trolley has to re-engage: run the opener once and it clicks back. These three fix a lot of openers for free.
